Soccer Fun Day

04-30-05 Women’s Team “Teaches Soccer For A Bright Future”

The Graceland University varsity women's soccer team took time off from their busy schedules to give a one-day soccer clinic to 25 young girls from the Lamoni area on Saturday, April 30. Under the banner of "Teaching Soccer for a Bright Future," young girls from ages three to 12 were given the chance to learn about various soccer skills from the successful Yellowjacket women's soccer team.
"The day was a huge success and the parents have told me how much their daughters enjoyed the day and the experience,” commented Graceland’s Coach Kevin Sherry.

The girls learned about passing, shooting, heading and goalkeeping skills before playing in a game to end the clinic. The Graceland Yellowjacket mascot, "Sting," was on hand to provide entertainment and proved to be a big hit with the young participants. Refreshments were provided and each girl received a certificate of participation to take home with them.
“I am extremely proud of the Graceland varsity soccer ladies for putting on such a well organized and fun event,” continues Coach Sherry. “They paid for the refreshments out of their own pocket and every single one of the team was on hand to help teach and play with the young soccer players. We value self-sacrifice, respect, unselfishness and community spirit very highly in our team and this is just one more example of how this team puts others before themselves. I am convinced our undefeated season last year and our appearance in the Final Four of the NAIA National Championship Tournament was due, in a large part, to this incredible supportive environment that exists in the team."
