03-20-04 Meyer Honored as All-America Scholar-Athlete
The NAIA honored Yellowjacket women’s basketball center Shelli Meyer as a 2004 Daktronics-NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete. Meyer, from Kirkwood, Iowa, is a senior majoring in biology at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.

The honor is presented to athletes with at least a 3.5 grade point average and a junior status in the classroom.

02-19-04 Chalk Up Another Loss for Basketball
The women’s basketball teams at Graceland University lost to Culver-Stockton on February 19, 2004 in Canton, Mo.

The Lady Jackets had a rough night from the floor shooting only 31 percent and only 20 percent from behind the arc. Jenny Coulson was the Jackets leading scorer with 11 points. Tammy Sandquist was right behind her with 10 points. The final score was 57-87 in favor of Culver-Stockton.

The Jackets next game is against the Missouri Valley Vikings on February 21, 2004 at 2 P.M.
02-16-04 Lady Jackets Swarm Eagles
The Graceland University women’s basketball team beat 64-63 the Avila Eagles in Kansas City, Mo. on February 16, 2004.

Minus the presence and experience of new head coach Laura Pollard the struggling Yellowjackets squeaked by the Eagles to win their fourth game of the season.

With the queen bee, Coach Pollard, out ill the Yellowjackets took coach’s knowledge of the game and went to work. The Yellowjackets senior guard Tammy Sandquist took the lead with 13 points and 2 steals. Senior Casey Cole stepped up also with 8 points and 5 steals. Junior Amy Giehtbrock also had 10 rebounds.

Going into the locker room at halftime the Yellowjackets led by two 31-29.

The second half was a back and forth battle but the lady Jackets broke loose and captured victory 64-63.

The Yellowjackets next game is against Culver-Stockton in Canton, Mo. on February 19, 2004 at 5:30 P.M.
02-14-04 Lady Jackets Still in a Funk
The Graceland University Lady Yellowjackets lost their 10th straight basketball game on Saturday, February 14, 2003 to the Baker University Wildcats 65-89 in Lamoni, Iowa.

The Jackets fell behind early in the first half, and went into the locker room down 32-44 after the first period. Graceland struggled again in the second half, and with nine minutes remaining pulled within 18 points, but never got any closer to the Wildcats.

Graceland was led by Jessica Crockett’s 18 points and five rebounds, followed by Beth Hooten’s 10 points and two assists. Senior Tammy Sandquist scored nine points off of a 3-4 three-point performance and Casey Cole scored nine points and dished five assists. Lashonda Davison grabbed six rebounds and scored eight points.

After the game, all players and their families were recognized, followed by a tribute to the 2003-04 senior class, including Stacy Dobson, Joanne Lehman, Jen McDonald, Shelli Meyer and Tammy Sandquist.

The Jackets will finish the season with three road games next week, playing Avila University on Monday, Culver-Stockton College on Thursday and Missouri Valley College on Saturday.
02-09-04 Slump Continues for the Lady Jacket’s
The Lady Jacket’s basketball team attempted to tame the Lindenwood Lions in St. Charles, Mo. on February 9, 2004.

The Jacket’s put up a good fight against the Lions with senior guard Tammy Sandquist leading the way. Sandquist finished with 21 points going 4 for 5 from three point land and shooting 71% from the field.

The half time score was 36-31 in favor of the Jacket’s. The second half was looking good for the Jackets until the Lions pulled ahead and didn’t let up. Lindenwood took the game 81-74.

The Yellowjacket’s next game is against Baker University at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa on February 14, 2004.
02-07-04 Lady Jackets Still in Slump
The Graceland University women’s basketball team lost to Evangel on February 7, 2004 in Lamoni, Iowa.

The rebuilding lady Jackets took another tough loss against Evangel losing 48-80. Sophomore Margo Iglesias led the team with 14 points. The Yellowjackets shot 16-46 from the filed and 12-20 from the line.

In the first half the Jackets looked like they were going to keep up with Evangel but in the second half Evangel pulled away and never looked back.

The Yellowjackets next game will be against the Lindenwood Lions on Tuesday February 9, 2004 in St. Charles, MO.
02-02-04 Lady Jackets Lose Tough Game to Central Methodist
The Graceland University women’s basketball team lost 57-72 to the Central Methodist Eagles Monday night in Lamoni, Iowa.

The Jackets (3-21) scratched and fought their way to a 15-point loss against the Eagles (11-14) from Fayette, Mo. In a physical game, with 57 total fouls, the Eagles hit 26-45 free throws and Graceland hit just 19-37. Graceland out-rebounded Central Methodist 41-40, led by Nikki Evans and Lashonda Davison with nine boards apiece. Jessica Crockett led all scorers with 19 points, added to her seven rebounds and three steals. Amy Giehtbrock scored 11 points and Casey Cole had 10 points and four assists.

Graceland travels to Kansas City, Mo. to play Avila University on Thursday, February 5 at 5:30 p.m. The Jackets host Evangel University, from Springfield, Mo. on Saturday, February 7 at 4:00 p.m.
01-31-04 Jackets Lose to Ravens
The Graceland University women’s basketball team lost 31-67 to Benedictine College Saturday night in Atchison, Kan. The Jackets are now 3-20 on the season and 1-12 in the conference.

The Jackets couldn’t find the bottom of the net, shooting just 18 percent (9-49) from the field and going 0-14 from behind the arc. Elizabeth Hooten led the Jackets in scoring with eight points while Amy Giehtbrock led in rebounds with six.

Graceland hosts Central Methodist College Monday, February 2, 2004 at 5:30 p.m.
01-29-04 Lady Jackets Let Up in Second Half
Senior Tammy Sandquist led the Jackets in scoring, hitting four of her six three-point attempts in a 53-66 loss to the William Jewell Cardinals Thursday night in Liberty, Mo.

The ladies played a strong first half, being down by just five points at halftime, but the Cardinals came out gunning in the second half, outscoring the Jackets 41-33 in the second period. Jessica Crockett added 16 points and five rebounds to Sandquist’s 16 points and five rebounds. Five-foot-seven-inch guard Casey Cole pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and had two steals.

The Jackets (3-19) travel to Atchison, Kan. on Saturday to play Benedictine College (16-6) at 5:30 p.m. Listen to the game online at www.benedictine.edu.
01-24-03 Jackets Lose to Pioneers
The Graceland University Lady Yellowjackets lost 48-75 to the MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers Saturday afternoon in Lamoni, Iowa.

Margo Iglesias led the attack with 13 points and four steals while Shelli Meyer grabbed seven rebounds and one assist. Nikki Evans had a balanced game with seven points and six rebounds.

The Jackets travel to Liberty, Mo. on Thursday to play the William Jewell Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
01-19-04 Jackets Fall to Culver-Stockton
The Graceland Lady Yellowjackets lost 42-59 to the Culver-Stockton Wildcats Monday night in Lamoni, Iowa.

The ladies played an unorganized first half, but came out in the second half to finish strong, only to come up 17 points short.

Sophomore Jenny Coulson sparked the Jackets’ run in the second half by going to the boards, grabbing six rebounds and scoring 10 points. Junior Jessica Crockett also hit the boards hard in the second half, pulling down 12 rebounds. Junior Amy Giehtbrock played a steady game with five rebounds and six points.

The Jackets host Missouri Valley on Thursday, January 22 at 5:30 p.m. in the Closson Gymnasium.
1-17-04 Graceland @ Baker University

The Lady Yellowjackets lost to the Baker University Wildcats 63-75 Saturday afternoon in Baldwin City, Kan.

The ladies were down by 10 at halftime, and almost played an even second half to lose by just 12 points to the fourth ranked team in the conference. Jessica Crockett led all scorers with 16 points added to her eight rebounds and four steals. Casey Cole threw in 10 points and two assists for the Jackets.
1-12-04 Graceland vs Lindenwood University

The ladies jumped out with great intensity on the Lions, with the Jackets leading the way at halftime 31-27. Lindenwood made a comeback run to lead by four with seven minutes left in the game, but Graceland made free throws to win the game 70-60.

Lashonda Davison sparked Graceland with 14 rebounds and 11 points added to her three assists. Jessica Crockett scored 16 points and had three steals. Elizabeth Hooten also scored 11 points and had three steals. Margo Iglesias had 10 points and Casey Cole had five steals and nine points.
1-08-04 Graceland vs Avila University

The Lady Yellowjackets took an early lead in the game, but found themselves down by 10 at halftime. Graceland pulled to within one point of the Avila with 12 minutes left in the game, but couldn’t ever get a lead on the Eagles who are now 6-8 on the season.

Jessica Crockett led the Jackets with 18 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals, followed closely by Amy Giehtbrock and Nikki Evans with 10 points apiece. Giehtbrock also grabbed nine rebounds and had two steals.

The Graceland University women’s basketball team lost 89-63 to William Jewell Thursday, December 11, 2003 in Lamoni, Iowa.

The Yellowjackets had nine steals and three blocked shots, but the Cardinals shot better than 50 percent from both the field and from behind the arc to beat Graceland by 26 points.

The Jackets were led by junior forward Amy Giehtbrock’s (Chatfield, MN) 18 points, four rebounds, three assists two blocks and two steals. Giehtbrock shot 9-10 from the free throw line and 4-8 from the field. Jennifer Coulson (Eagleville, MO), a sophomore forward, added 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals to the Graceland effort. Coulson shot 5-10 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line.

The William Jewell Cardinals were led by freshman forward Roxi Davitt’s (Gallatin, MO) 23 points—8-12 from the field and 4-5 from three-point--and five rebounds.

The Lady Yellowjackets travel to Cancun, Mexico for a holiday tournament on December 20, and return to action in the Closson on January 8 against Avila University at 5:30 p.m.
12-06-03 Ravens Fly By Jackets
The Graceland University Lady Yellowjackets lost 56-58 and the men lost 57-64 to the Benedictine Ravens Saturday, December 6 in Lamoni, Iowa.

The GU ladies put up a tough fight against Benedictine, who was ranked 5th in the conference preseason rankings, but Graceland, who is ranked 11th in the preseason poll, only hit 21-69 from the field, while the Ravens hit 27-59 shots.

Tammy Sandquist led the scoring attack with five three-pointers and a total of 19 points. Jessica Crockett scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds, blocked four shots and stole the ball four times. Lashonda Davison pulled down six rebounds, all in the second half.

Graceland hosts William Jewell on Thursday, December 11. The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m. and the men play at 7:30 p.m.
12-02-03 Jackets Fall to MidAmerica
The Graceland University Yellowjacket men’s and women's basketball teams lost to MidAmerica University 86-58 and 88-73, respectively, Tuesday night in Olathe, Kan.

The women were led by Jessica Crockett with 13 points and nine rebounds. Casey Cole added 10 points and four steals to the cause.

Graceland hosts Benedictine College from Atchison, Kan. Saturday, December 6 at the Closson. The women's game is at 2:00 p.m. and the men tip-off at 4:00 p.m.
11-25-03 Jackets Fall to William Penn
The Graceland Yellowjacket women’s basketball team couldn't find the bottom of the net against William Penn University from Oskaloosa, Iowa, losing 48-69 Tuesday night in Lamoni.

The Jackets shot just 30 percent from the field for the game, and only 23 percent from the free throw line. Tammy Sandquist found her stroke from behind the arc, hitting five for 12 three pointers to lead the Jackets with 17 points. Lashonda Davison and Jessica Crockett each grabbed eight rebounds, and Crockett had 14 points.

The Jackets travel to Olathe, Kan. Tuesday, December 2 for the first conference game of the season against MidAmerica Nazarene University.
11-22-03 Lady Jackets Rebound from Tough Loss
The Graceland Yellowjacket women’s basketball team rebounded from the 71-point loss to Hastings College on Wednesday to beat the Haskell Indian Nations University Indians 69-38 Saturday, November 22, 2003 in Lamoni, Iowa.

Senior guard Tammy Sandquist shot 6-13 from behind the three-point arc to lead the Jackets with 21 points. Junior forward Jessica Crockett had a solid performance scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Sophomore Lashonda Davison pulled down nine rebounds on the night.

The team shot 9-18 from three-point land in the first half and 41.4 percent from beyond the arc for the game. The Jackets also outshot the Indians in total field goal percentage shooting 38.1 percent compared to the Indians’ 23.9 percent.

The ladies host William Penn University from Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Tuesday, November 25 at 7:00 p.m.

11-15-03 Ladies Notch First Win of 2003-04 Season
The Graceland Yellowjackets beat William Penn University 70-67 Friday night in the William Penn Tournament in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Junior forward Amy Giehtbrock led the way in scoring for the Jackets with 18 points. Nikki Evans and Margo Iglesias each added 12 points. Casey Cole had three assists for Graceland.

Saturday night the Jackets lost 47-76 to Grand View College in the William Penn Tournament. Tammy Sandquist had 10 points while Jessica Crockett pulled down 9 boards. Giehtbrock and Crockett each had eight points for Graceland.

The Jackets travel to Hastings, Neb. on Wednesday, November 19 for a re-match of the November 11 meeting, when Hastings College beat Graceland 67-37.

The next home game is Saturday, November 22 at 4:00 p.m. against Haskell Indian Nations University.
11-11-03 NAIA National Champs Beat Jackets
The back-to-back women’s basketball NAIA National Champions, Hastings College, beat Graceland University 67-37 Tuesday, November 11 in Lamoni.

The Jackets came out to an early 6-0 lead, but Hastings took over the lead with 13:25 left in the first half, the Broncos took the lead and never looked back, leading 32-19 at the half. The Jackets kept the score within 14 to18 points for most of second half, but a nine-point run by the Broncos left the game at the final score of 37-67.

Junior Jessica Crockett led the way for the Jackets with 16 points, nine boards and six steals. Junior guard Casey Cole also grabbed nine rebounds and had two assists and two steals in 30 minutes of play.

The Jackets travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa for the William Penn Tournament on November 14 and 15. The ladies’ next game at the Closson Center is November 22 against Haskell.
