Yellowjackets Post Solid Showing at HAAC Outdoor Championships

Results
Baldwin City, KS- Going up against the toughest competition in the conference, the Graceland University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships over the weekend. The men’s team placed fourth while the women notched a sixth place standing.
GU will host the Graceland Decathalon/Heptathalon on May 4th and 5th as many of the Jacket’s athletes prepare for the upcoming NAIA Outdoor National Championships that will once again take place in Fresno, California on May 24th-26th.
Men’s Peak Performers

Sophomore Ben Brummit won the men’s decathalon at the HAAC championships while two other Jacket athletes finished in the top five. An NAIA All-American in the men’s indoor heptathlon, Brummit continues to impress by winning the outdoor decathlon with 10 points. Martin Ciccolini and Eric Knapp finished third and fourth respectively.
Karim Martin was another standout on the men’s side for head coach Kent Allshouse. Martin earned a top-five finish in the 400 meter dash (49.87). Luke Keny, another multi-event performer, finished third in the 800 meter run (1:57.29) while placing fifth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:02.16. Andrew Williams placed second in the men’s high jump with a solid height of 6.05 while fellow Jackets Audrae Williams and Brummit finished fourth and fifth.
Dillon Domingo earned a fifth place finish in the men’s long jump while Kyle Lee gained a third-place standing in the triple jump. Milton Thomas placed fifth in both the discus throw (134) and hammer throw (132.06).
Women’s Peak Performers
Jackie Keil earned the HAAC championship in the women’s 5000 meter run with an impressive time of 18:25.05. Two other GU runners, Kaycee Blattner and Allison Forth, also finished in the top 10 of the 5000 meter run.
Nikki Peterson came through for the Blue and Gold and notched a sixth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles finals at 16.85 seconds. Blattner also finished fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase at 13:08.74.
The GU 4 X 800 meter relay team consisting of Kristin Osbourn, Blattner, Allison Emslie, and Amanda Batey finished third overall with a time of 9:57.28. Jordie Currie placed fourth in the women’s pole vault with a jump of 9.25 while Elisha Plaine came through with a second place finish in the women’s triple jump competition and eight points for the women’s squad.
