Johnson City, TN- When Graceland University head track Coach Kent Allshouse returns home to Lamoni later today, he will be joined by two NAIA All-Americans. After sophomore Ben Brummit earned All-American honors for his fourth place finish in the men’s heptathlon during yesterday’s competition, GU sophomore James Thomas ran his way to a fifth place finish in the men’s 60 meter dash finals on Saturday.
An Orlando, Florida native, Thomas ran an impressive time of 6.92 seconds in the finals of the 60 meter dash in this his second collegiate season. A dual-sport athlete at Graceland, Thomas also competes for the Blue and Gold on the gridiron as a talented defensive back for head coach Cris Welch.
Mike Rodgers, a senior out of Oklahoma Baptist University, took first place in the finals by posting a time of 6.696 seconds.

Johnson City, TN- After a strong first day of competition in the men’s heptathlon, Graceland University sophomore Ben Brummit continued to post solid results on his way to being named an NAIA All-American. After sitting in the seventh position after the first four events on Thursday, Brummit improved his position with solid finishes in the final three events on Friday and finished with a very respectable fourth place overall finish in the men’s heptathlon at the NAIA National Indoor Championships.

Brummit opened up day two of the competition by competing in the 60 meter hurdles in which he placed 10th with a time of 9.33 seconds. After a brief time to rest, Brummit moved to the pole vault mats where he would notch another top-10 finish, finishing 8th in the field with a final jump of 11’9.75” (3.6 meters). Wrapping up the seven-event competition was the 1000 meter run in which Brummit registered a 2nd place finish at 2:41.87, just 0:03. 27 seconds off the winning time of Cody Ingold from Doane College.
In total, Brummit collected 4520 points, trailing eventual champion Forrest Gregory of Doane College by only 401 points. Kevin McElvaney (4846 points, Dickinson State University) finished second while David Pichler (4833 points, Azusa Pacific University) registered a third place finish.
Not alone in his quest for an individual championship, Brummit was joined by fellow sophomore James Thomas as he competed in the 60 meter dash. A native of Orlando, Florida, Thomas earned a 9th place finish at a time of 6.929 seconds in the early preliminaries, thus qualifying him for the semi-finals of the race. Entering into the early evening hours, Thomas prepared for his next heat. Running a semi-finals time of 6.86 seconds, Thomas thrust himself into the finals for the men’s 60 meter dash by the slimmest of margins. Finishing sixth in the semis, Thomas joins five other runners in the finals, to be held tomorrow in Johnson City, Tennessee.
The final Graceland athlete represented at the national meet is freshman Dillion Domingo. Domingo competed in the final event of Friday’s action, participating in the men’s long jump finals. After fouling on his first attempt, Domingo jumped at 20’4.5” (6.94 meters), good for 13th best in the nation.

Competing in the heptathlon, Brummit currently sits in seventh place after four sessions of the highly skilled and athletic competition. Brummit will finish out the heptathlon tomorrow when he competes in the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault, and rounds out the competition with the 1000 meter run.
Brummit opened up the competition with a solid finish in the 60 meter dash, finishing 11th overall with a time of 7.52 seconds. Just getting started on the day, Brummit moved on to compete in the men’s long jump where his first jump would be his best, registering at 5.84 meters (19'2"). Switching gears, Brummit next completed the men’s shot put where his throw of 9.84 meters (32'3.5") was good enough for 13th in the competition. Perhaps saving his best efforts for last, Brummit finished out the day registering an impressive finish in men’s high jump with a stellar second place finish coming in at 1.94 meters (6’4.25”).
Also competing for the Yellowjackets at the Indoor National Championships will be sophomore James Thomas in the 60 meter dash prelims. This event will begin at 1:50 tomorrow afternoon. GU freshman Dillon Domingo will compete in the men’s long jump at 5:30 tomorrow evening as well.

HAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS - RECORD FALLS ON OPENING DAY
Lamoni, Iowa – One record was broken on the first day of the 2007 Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship. For the women, Mid-America Nazarene scored 75 points and leads by 31 points over Benedictine College. GU is 8th with 14.3 points. For the men, Mid-America Nazarene leads with 37 points, followed by Lindenwood with 29 and Graceland and Missouri Valley with 28 points each. The meet is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.
On the women’s side,
Jordan Currie tied for second in the Pole Vault while the Yellowjackets ran 10:20.44 to finish 2nd in the 3200M Relay.
For the men,
Noah Too (Mid-America Nazarene) ran 14:39.59 to win the 5000. He broke the meet record of 14:55.34 set by
Bashar Ibrahim of Lindenwood in 1999. Scoring for the Yellowjackets was
Ryan Nicholas (35-LB WT – 3rd),
Dillon Domingo (Triple Jump – 4th),
Milton Thomas (35-LB WT – 4th),
James Blake (35-LB WT – 5th) and
Kyle Lee (Triple Jump – 5th). GU finished 5th in the 3200M Relay with a time of 8:21.14.
