GU then edged Azusa Pacific 7-6 in a shootout to win.

Onto to a second round we went with new shooters. On the fourth shot, Beau Hayden made the Jacket faithful hearts nearly stop as he scored. Stefan Delas (Jr./Trinidad & Tobago) nailed his kick to even the score. Isaac Unruh (Sr./St. Joseph, Mo.) came up with a beautiful diving save to stop APU on its last attempt. “It hasn’t sunk in yet what we have done,” said Head Coach Ivan Joseph. “I’m really proud of the effort that we have put forth all season long. We weren’t the best team but we just kept finding ways to win. I want people to know that great soccer exists in southern Iowa and that you don’t have to play NCAA Division I soccer to be part of a great soccer program.”

Three Graceland players were selected to the All-Tournament team, Midfielder Kevin Souter (So./Glasgow, Scotland), Defenseman Bret Loving (Sr./St. Joseph, Mo.) and Goalkeeper Unruh (Sr./St. Joseph, Mo.). Defenseman Isaias Diaz - “It’s a great feeling to win the title. All throughout my high school career, my teams were always so close. And after sitting out last year with an injury, this is a great way to wrap up my career. It’s so fulfilling to finally win a championship.”

Hannibal, Mo. – A long drive home is always better after a win. #18 Graceland (14-3-2) battled #14 Hannibal-LaGrange (15-3-1) to a 1-1 tie. In a case of déjà vu, the shootout score was the same as the women’s, 4-3 but with the Jackets on top. GU will face William Jewell on the road for the regional championship. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.

Hannibal-LaGrange scored with 15 minutes left in the first half for a 1-0 advantage.
