Lamoni, IA-The First Annual Ted Quinn Coaching Academy will be held on Saturday, September 22 at the Closson Center on Graceland University’s campus. Hosted and facilitated by Ted Quinn, Graceland University’s Head Men’s Basketball Coach, the all-day event will feature Don Meyer, Head Coach at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD.
Quinn’s intent with the Academy is “to bring great coaches on campus to share their knowledge of the game with area coaches who might not otherwise have such an opportunity for professional development.” Says Quinn, “This will really be an opportunity to learn from one of the best in the game. There is none finer than Coach Meyer when it comes to teaching the game and preparing teams to play at a high level.”
Endorsed by such winning coaches as Mike Krzyzewski, Rick Majerus, and Pat Summitt, Coach Meyer fulfills the definition of “one of the best in the game.” His accomplishments include: being fourth in all-time wins among NCAA coaches behind Dean Smith, Adolph Rupp, and Bob Knight; coaching 12 seasons of teams that won 30 or more games; coaching five seasons of teams that led the nation in scoring; graduating all but two of his seniors during his career; and building and directing the nation’s largest basketball camp, attracting over 4,500 campers.
Quinn, now in his tenth year of coaching high school and collegiate basketball, will also bring his experience to the Academy instructional scene, drawing on his successes in coaching five All-Americans, 13 Academic All-Americans and 21 All-Conference players, including two Conference Players of the Year. In addition, the Graceland Men’s Basketball players will be on hand to demonstrate and apply the specific teachings within the six different instructional sessions.
