Mike Malat Signs Letter of Intent To Play Basketball at GU

June 12, 2007

Lamoni, IA-
Graceland University head men’s basketball coach Ted Quinn has announced his first official signing of the off-season with the addition of Mike Malat to the roster for the 2007-2008 season.

A 6’3” point guard prospect out of Belleville, Illinois, Malat is a product of O’Fallon High School and gives the Yellowjackets a solid option to lead the Jackets on the floor. A member of OHS’s state runner-up team during his senior season, Malat brings a wealth of game experience as he enters the collegiate ranks.

Averaging 11 points per game as a senior, Malat also brought down three rebounds and dished out four assists per game. A solid defender with the ability to guard multiple positions, Malat also averaged 2.3 steals per contest. A disciplined player, Malat shot 39% from three-point range while also connecting on an impressive 85% of his attempts from the free-throw line while at OHS.

Adding top shelf talent such as Malat is what Quinn believes will help turn around the Jacket’s program. “Mike is a terrific player who will bring toughness and a very competitive nature to our program. He is very driven to succeed and will join our team with a great deal of big-game experience. He will help solidify things for us at the guard positions and help us continue to build a team that will compete for a conference title,” said Quinn.

Mike is the son of Joe and Eva Malat and a brother to Joseph Malat Jr.
