Season Outlook

2005-06 Outlook

First year head coach Ted Quinn takes over a Yellowjacket program that finished tied for third in the Heart of America Athletic Conference a year ago.

The Yellowjackets lose first team All-American and HAAC Player of the Year Matt Lynch and his running mate Keith Van Natta at the guard positions. Lynch was arguably one of the most exciting players to play in the HAAC in recent years. The void left by Lynch and Van Natta will be filled by Josh Dalsing (6-0, Jr.), Wendell Smith (6-0, Sr.), and Roman Conner (6-2, Sr.). All three bring experience and will be strong leaders on the court. A trio of talented point guards will battle for playing time: Chase Moore (5-10, Jr.), DeJon Grant (6-1, Fr.) and Jonathan Carter (6-0, Fr.) all possess quickness, leadership skills and the ability to take on the position.

A steady presence in the middle, Jason Holt, is also gone from last season, but overall the Yellowjackets have strengthened their talent and depth at the post and power forward positions. Dan Leadbetter (6-10, Sr.), a transfer from University of Missouri-Kansas City, will provide an immediate impact to the Yellowjacket post presence. His strength and experience will provide a solid post game and leadership for the younger post players in the program.

Leadbetter joins a talented group of returners: Dan Easter (6-8, Sr.), Tyson Meierotto (6-5, So.), Tyler Dow (6-8, So.), Travis McPherson (7-0, So.), Jared Mulheron (6-5, So.), Simon Morefield (6-6, Fr.) and Larry Kroenke (6-6, Fr.).

With the anticipation of another strong HAAC schedule, the Yellowjackets will again play a tough non-conference tilt with the hopes of preparing to compete for a conference title. Replacing key guards will be difficult, but with the increased talent and emphasis on an inside presence, the Yellowjackets will look to make a run for the title in 2005-06.
