09-29-04 Graceland Gray Wins the Yellowjacket Challenge
On the last day of preseason conditioning, Coaches Ted Quinn and Mike Foster hosted the Yellowjacket Challenge for the men’s basketball program.
The coaches made four teams, each with eight players. The Challenge began with a two-person canoe trip across Big G Lake. Three of the four teams had no trouble making the trek, but one team quickly got behind in the race, due to an off-course path of the paddlers.
Once the canoe groups were safely on land, a second athlete made an 800-meter run from the lake to the Bruce Jenner Sports Complex and once trip around the track. Then another player ran one lap around the track, and up to the swimming pool in the Closson Center. The next athlete swam four laps in the pool, followed by the last teammate running 200-meters with a medicine ball carried above the head.
The gray team won the Yellowjacket Challenge, followed closely by the yellow squad.
The Graceland basketball teams begin their 2004-05 seasons this weekend with the Homecoming alumni games. Then women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m. in the Closson Gymnasium.
