The Graceland University Yellowjacket football team beat the William Jewell Cardinals 30-13 Saturday, September 27 in Lamoni, Iowa.
The Jackets’ first score was a 70-yard pass from Tom Campos to Anthony Rozier and Danny Laguna finished the play with the point-after field goal kick. Campos had a one-yard run followed by Laguna’s kick for the next seven points.
In the second quarter, Michael Richardson recovered a fumble and ran 66 yards to the end zone. William Jewell made a late-game rally in the third quarter with back-to-back touchdowns, but Graceland held off the Cardinals with a 51-yard touchdown pass play from Campos to Rozier and a 28-yard field goal kick from Laguna to finish the game.
The Jackets are now 2-1 overall and in the Conference while William Jewell is 0-3 in the conference and 0-4 overall.
In the most recent Heart of America Athletic Conference report, Graceland leads the conference in scoring defense, allowing only 11.3 points per game with only five touchdowns and four extra points for 34 total points in three games. The Yellowjackets also are atop the conference in pass efficiency with 26 completions in 53 attempts with one interception along with 379 yards and four touchdowns for a 130.3 efficiency. Graceland also averages 25.2 yards per kickoff return to lead the conference.
Individually, Tony Ingram leads the conference in tackles with 12 solo and 20 assisted tackles for 10.7 per game, and Tom Campos has the highest passing efficiency, throwing 25-52 completions, four touchdowns and one interception for a 193.9 efficiency rating.
Graceland travels to Springfield, Mo., to play Evangel University on October 4, 2003 in Plaster Sports Complex on the campus of Southwest Missouri State University. Evangel is currently 2-1 in the conference and 3-1 overall.
