Graceland VS Baker

The Yellowjacket football team scored 21 first quarter points on Saturday but gave up 35 unanswered points to lose their final home game of the 2003 campaign.

Just three plays into the game, at the 13:37 mark of the first quarter, running back Julius Strong scored on a 45-yard touchdown romp and the Jackets were up 7-0.

The Yellowjackets had to punt on their second possession, the ball was fumbled by Baker, Graceland recovered the ball and the Jackets were in scoring position again. Seven plays later quarterback Tom Campos ran into the end zone and the Yellowjackets had a 14-0 lead.

Once again Baker fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Graceland recovered the ball. The first play had Campos hitting wide receiver Dante Johnson for a 26-yard touchdown strike. The Jackets increased their lead to 21-0.

Baker would score twice in both the first and second quarters and they would cap-off their scoring with a lone touchdown in the third quarter.

Graceland’s hot start would be all of the offense the team had on the day.

The Yellowjackets were led defensively by defensive back Ryan King who had a 26 total tackles, two of which were for losses. King also had a fumble recovery and an interception on the day. Linebackers Craig Hidy and Alan Linden had 14 and 11 tackles respectively. Two of Linden’s tackles were for losses and he picked up one sack on the day.

The Yellowjackets (4-5) will head to Canton, Mo. to take on the Wildcats (4-5) of Culver-Stockton College, Saturday, November 15th. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
