What We Do

The Yellowjacket Cheerleaders encourage crowd enthusiasm and participation through the use of partner stunts, pyramids and chants. We cheer at all home football and basketball games and have the option to attend away games as well.

The squad shares their school spirit by performing at various Graceland functions and rallies, as well as judging and putting on clinics for local junior high and high school squads.

Basic Qualifications

Must be enrolled full-time (12 hours) at Graceland University for the entire year he/she will serve. Maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.00. Cannot be on disciplinary probation. Must have health and hospitalization insurance.

Prior cheerleading, dance, or gymnastic experience preferred. Tryouts are held in the spring for the upcoming fall semester. **NOTE: Varsity cheerleading can be taken for one semester hour of credit during both the fall and spring semesters. We encourage all our cheerleaders to sign up for the academic credit since we do not currently offer cheerleading scholarships at Graceland University.

Practice Sessions

Practices are supervised.
Practice is usually held four to five times a week with some 6 to 8 am and some 4 to 6 pm.

Cheerleading Auditions

All candidates must audition.  You can schedule an audition along with a campus visit by contacting Coach Chandler.  Scholarships are available for the 2010-2011 year.  We are looking for strong stunting and tumbling skills.  We highly encourage high school seniors to audition for the 2010-2011 squad.  Interested junior and senior cheerleaders are encouraged to visit Graceland and attend a practice to meet the squad and participate in person with our current squad members.  The auditions are critiqued upon the following categories:

  • How quickly you learn
  • Jumps-toe touch, double toe, hurdler and pike
  • Position ability (flyer, base, backspot)
  • Tumbling skills
  • Overall appearance

Video tapes or DVD's are accepted if unable to audition in person.  Please include a cheer, toe touch, double toe, hurdler, pike, tumbling and stunting skills.

Please send them to:

Cheerleaders are required to arrive on campus mid August for preseason.  You must have all athletic training paperwork and physical turned in to be cleared for practice. Please bring this with you or mail in during the summer. As a Graceland University Cheerleader you are required to pay for your warm-ups, shoes, practice gear and briefs. Please plan on spending between $300.00 - $400.00. This will need to be paid by the time preseason begins.
