Jackets Continue to Stockpile Talent With the Addition of Rodriguez
June 20, 2007
Lamoni, IA- Hitting the recruiting trail hard over the summer months, Graceland University head baseball coach Brady McKillip feels as if he’s found another possible standout in the signing of Carlos Rodriguez to a national letter of intent.
A junior college transfer from Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Illinois, Rodriguez brings a solid set of skills that should help aide the Yellowjackets in the coming seasons. A second-baseman for the Skyhawks, Rodriguez also brings a solid bat to the Jacket’s roster.
Finishing third on the team in hitting by posting a .315 batting average in 2007, Rodriguez produced 51 total hits during the season. Blessed with gap-to-gap power and speed, Rodriguez finished second on the Skyhawks with 12 doubles and four triples while also registering 22 RBI’s in 48 games.
Not only a threat from the batters box and on the bases, Rodriguez posted a solid .941 fielding percentage while being a part of 21 double-plays during the season.
“You build up the middle and Carlos is about as solid a second baseman defensively as you can get,” said McKillip. “He is a big key in replacing our infield and we are happy to have him in a Graceland uniform. Along with his defense he is a solid bat at the plate and will bring a lot of experience from the JC ranks to our team.”
All-Conference honorable mention selectee Aaron Fuller was the starting second-baseman for the past four seasons before graduating this spring.
A native of Miami, Florida and a graduate of Sunset High School, Rodriguez may be far from home but will look to adapt quickly to life at Graceland beginning in the fall.
