Jackets Claim Six Players to HAAC All-Conference Team

May 1, 2007

Shawnee, KS-
With the season now complete for the Graceland University baseball team, it’s time to hand out the hardware as six players were honored with recognition by the Heart of America Athletic Conference as members of the All-Conference team.

All seniors and all players from outside of the continental 48 states ironically, the six players represented were all key contributors during their stellar careers on the diamond for the Jackets.

Adrian Kerr (Second Team, Outfielder)

Adrian Kerr is a native of Brampton, Ontario and has been an immediate impact player since he arrived on the Lamoni campus. During 2007, Kerr led the Jackets in many offensive and defensive categories. Kerr paced the Jackets with a .387 batting average and led the team in hits (58), slugging percentage (.600), and finished second in homeruns (6), total bases (90), and doubles (12).

Not just a threat at the plate, Kerr also wreaked havoc on the base paths and with his powerful throwing arm from right-field. In fact, in addition to his second-team status, Kerr was also awarded the HAAC gold glove in the outfield which will be matched up with some of the best defensive stars in the NAIA Region V and onto the national NAIA awards.

Always a threat to swipe a bag, Kerr was second on the team in stolen bases and went 17 of 19 during 2007 in stolen base attempts. Evidenced by the gold glove recognition, Kerr led all Yellowjackets with a .990 fielding percentage and had six outfield assists.

Tyler Moe (Honorable Mention, Third-baseman)

While Kerr was the leader of many offensive statistics for the Jackets in 2007, Moe had plenty himself including others that capped a tremendous career for the Blue and Gold. A product of Iroquois Ridge High School in Oakville, Ontario, Moe became the all-time career hits and homeruns leader in Graceland history during the 2007 season.

An all-conference player during all four of his seasons at GU, Moe capped his senior campaign by leading the Jackets in homeruns (8), RBI’s (47), total bases (94) and was second in slugging percentage (.599) and hits (55).

Matt Calcagni (Honorable Mention, Shortstop)

Joining Kerr and Moe within the Graceland University baseball record books is senior shortstop Matt Calcagni. A leader on and off the field, Calcagni provided head coach Brady McKillip a solid bat and solid glove up the middle for the Jackets team defense.

An on-base machine, Calcagni led the Jackets with a .434 on-base percentage while also driving in 21 runs and hitting four homers. Known simply as “Cal” to his teammates, he also tallied 45 hits including a team-high 13 doubles and scored 29 runs on the season.

A hard-nosed defender, Calcagni missed a few games during the season due to his rough-style of play but still ended up starting 42 games for the Yellowjackets in his final season.

Aaron Fuller (Honorable Mention, Second-base)

Aaron Fuller once again proved to be a vital player for the Jackets, both in the field and at the plate. A steady defender at second-base, Fuller once again also moved over to shortstop to fill in when needed.

Consistently batting in the number two slot in the order, Fuller used his veteran knowledge and leadership to provide the Jacket’s with a dependable top-of-the-order threat. Hitting at a .322 clip, Fuller was second on the squad in runs (34) while collecting 152 at-bats and collecting 49 hits.

A solid defender, Fuller committed only five errors on the season while cumulating a .972 fielding percentage and a team-high 99 assists. A savvy base-runner, he also stole five bases and consistently gave coach McKillip a dependable table-setter at the top of the order.

Fuller is a Honolulu, Hawaii native and comes to Graceland out of Kamehameha High School.

Matt Proctor (Honorable Mention, Catcher)

A prototypical backstop, senior Matt Proctor gave the Jackets dependable defense and a sense of leadership behind the plate that most coaches crave.

Not only a solid defender, Proctor also provided good pop with the bat as he batted in the six spot much of the year and came through with many RBI contributions. A product of Barrie, Ontario, the 6’2” catcher helped the Jackets in a number of ways.

Starting 43 games on the season, Proctor finished fourth on the team in hitting (.344), third in RBI’s (32) and fourth in total bases (63). A powerful right-handed swing, Proctor also delivered three homeruns during the 2007 campaign.

Known for blocking many pitches in the dirt during his Yellowjackets career, Proctor also nailed 16 attempted stolen bases this season to help the Yellowjacket’s cause.

Rudy Vallejos (Honorable Mention, Centerfield)

A stellar defender in centerfield, senior Rudy Vallejos consistently provided the Jacket’s pitching staff with a solid glove in centerfield. Lightening quick and a solid ability to read the ball very well off the bat, Vallejos helped save more than his fair share of runs with his defense.

At the plate, the Ottawa, Ontario native also performed well to the tune of a .328 batting average while collecting 45 hits including eight doubles, and two triples.

Playing in 47 of the team’s 48 games during the 2007 season, Vallejos always provided McKillip with a solid player to pencil in the batting order and in the field.
