Jackets Overtake Missouri Valley in Final Game of the Season

April 30, 2007

Marshall, MO-
With playoff implications on the line, the Graceland University baseball team hit the road one last time for the 2007 season in search of a season-ending victory over Missouri Valley College. A hard-fought victory is what they got as GU downed the Vikings 3-1 behind the strong pitching of Junior Tyler Wright.

Forced to make up the game due to a rainout earlier in the season, the Jacket’s rode the strong pitching of Wright and some timely hitting to win their 21st game of the season. After a four-game slugfest over the weekend left head coach Brady McKillip and the Jacket’s bullpen looking bare, McKillip turned to 6’3” southpaw Tyler Wright to give the Blue and Gold some valuable innings on the hill. Wright responded by limiting the Vikings to four hits and went the distance by tossing only 78 pitches.

Rudy Vallejos, playing in his final game as a Yellowjacket baseball player delivered the big blow offensively as he collected a two-run double to finish out his stellar career on the diamond. Adam Shupe collected the other RBI for GU with a solo homerun.

GU finished out their season on a high note before settling their season mark at 22-27.
