Lamoni, IA-The Graceland women defeated the Vikings of Missouri Valley tonight at the Closson Center by a score of 66-58.
The first half was a close affair with the score with Graceland and Missouri Valley trading the lead back and forth for most of the period. Despite both sides struggling from the floor, with the Jackets in particular unable to find their stroke, neither opponent was able to take advantage. When the dust settled, however, Graceland took a slim three point lead into the locker room, 30-27.
The second half started much the same as the first, with the Vikings recapturing the lead from Graceland and proceeding to go shot-for-shot with the Jackets for the next five minutes. Graceland managed to level with their guests at the 13 minute mark, As the final minutes ticked down, the Jackets opened up a small lead on Missouri Vally, which they doggedly held onto for the rest of the game.
Marisa Rauss (Mansfield, TX) led Graceland in shooting with 16 points, while Channel Rainey (Los Angeles, CA) added 14 points of her own.
The Graceland women will next face Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas on Saturday, January 23rd. That game will be a 2:00pm start. Stay tuned to the Graceland athletics website for continuing coverage of women's basketball and all of Graceland athletics.
