Lamoni, IA-The GU women fell in their hard fought return to the home hardwood Thursday night with a loss to the Pioneers of MidAmerica Nazarene 73-87. The Yellowjackets will go to 6-4 on the year (1-3 in conference play).
The first half was a closely contested struggle for much of the period before the Pioneers managed to pull away by few baskets in the final few minutes. With a 34-41 deficit going into half, Graceland was not able catch up to a surging MidAmerica side, who pulled away despite a solid Jacket effort to counter the Pioneer offensive attack. The Graceland defense managed a solid 24 takeaways against MidAmerica's 16, but the sheer number of opportunities for the visitors proved too much.
Senior Channel Rainey (Los Angeles, CA) led the Jackets from the floor with 20 points and also contributed 3 rebounds. Marisa Rauss (Mansfield, TX) added 14 in the effort, also pulling down 9 rebounds.
