Lamoni, IA-Playing in the Heart of America Athletic conference is no easy task. Saturday, things didn't get much easier for the struggling Jackets (2-5) as they faced Baker University (4-3) and their star running back, Richie Bryant.
In a game where 5 turnovers plagued the Jackets including 4 interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), GU fell 44-7 at the hands of the Wildcats. Wildcat running back Richie Bryant rushed for 188 yards on 29 carries in the win.
Graceland tallied their only touchdown in the fourth quarter on Yellowjacket runningback Jerome Messam's (Brampton, Ontario) 26 yard touchdown scamper. Messam ended the game with a Yellowjacket high 84 yards rushing and the touchdown. Jacket wide receiver Jerremi Byrd (Los Angeles, CA) had a career high 9 catches in the loss.
Defensively GU was led by senior linebacker Cameron Willkomm (San Diego, CA) with 10 tackles, junior defensive back James Cody (San Diego, CA) also with 10 tackles and senior safety Reggie Foster (Long Beach, CA) who added 9 tackles. Sophomore defensive back Kirk Davidson (Newark, New Jersey) also had his first interception in the contest.
Today's loss was the fifth consecutive for Graceland and they now stand at 2-5 overall and 2-5 in conference play. The Jackets will travel to Culver Stockton College on Halloween (October 31st) for a 1:30pm matchup with the Wildcats.
