Lamoni, IA-For the second straight season, Jacket cross country star Neil Grundman (Croswell, MI) has won the men's Yellowjacket Invite. Grundman, who is on a torrid pace this season, won the 3rd annual event with a time of 25:16 in the 8k, defeating 109 other runners.
Overall the Jacket men's team finished 8th place with notable finishes from Ahmed Khalif (Hamilton, Ontario) who finished ninth overall with a time of 26:42 and Chris Karley (Waterloo, Ontairo) who finished in the top half of the field at 29:02.
On the women's side Graceland's ninth place finish was paced by Jami Ruckman (Independence, MO) who finished a solid 21st overall in the field of 109 runners with a time of 20:21 in the 5k event. Alice Ross (Los Fresnos, TX) and Lindsey Triggs (Mt. Ayr, IA) finished 55th and 56th respectively with equal times of 21:49.
"We had a very nice crowd on a beautiful day to run on a great course," stated a happy Coach Allshouse following Saturday's run. "Neil Grundman just continues to run well, but it was too bad he didn't have better competion to push him a bit. He defended his meet championship with ease. On the womens side, Jami Ruckman ran very well and just missed a personal best time. Jami will be a force to deal with well before her senior year. Today was a solid tune up for the national qualifying conference meet in two weeks," concluded Allshouse.
The Yellowjacket cross country teams next event is scheduled for Saturday November 7th, as they'll look to qualify for the National Event at the HAAC meet. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of the men's and women's cross country teams and all of Jacket athletics.
