Kansas City, MO- The Yellowjacket football squad fell today, 6-13, in a closely fought battle against Avila University in Kansas City. The Jackets' offensive woes continue to haunt them, but solid defensive play and flashes of offense kept them in the game until the very last moments.
The Jackets defense held Avila to a 12 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter as their only offensive strike. A pair of field goals in the first and fourth quarters respectively were all the Eagles could muster. The GU defense held Avila scoreless in the second and third quarters, giving the offense a chance to catch up.
Graceland put up 240 yards of offense, 144 through the air and 96 on the ground, but could not find the endzone. Chalium Muir (San Diego, CA) hit two field goals from 26 and 27 yards to pull the Jackets within 4 points in the third quarter.
Graceland was driving in the final minutes of the fourth, but could not convert a 4th and 3 with 13 seconds left on the 18 yard line of Avila to close the deal.
This was Graceland's third loss in a row, but they will return to Lamoni next Saturday, October 24 to face the Wildcats of Baker University. Stay tuned to the Graceland athletic website for continuing coverage of Jacket football and all Graceland athletics.
