St. Charles, MO-The Graceland women's volleyball team lost in five to powerful Missouri Baptist side, then fell in three to Friends in St. Charles, MO.
The Jackets found their attack in Day 2 of the tourney, which bodes well for the immediate future, but could not overcome good teams from Missouri Baptist and Friends University.
In their first game, the Jackets, (13-11) came out firing, shocking the Missouri Baptist team and took the game 25-22. The Spartans recovered from the initial jolt and managed to take two dogfights in games two and three, both 22-25 Graceland defeats.
The Jackets showed their mettle in a match game four, and sent the affair into a fifth game by winning 25-16. The last game seemed to be just out of reach for the GU squad, however, and they could not get that final burst to overtake Missouri Baptist, losing 12-15.
The second game of the day and final game of the tournament for Graceland was the solid Friends University Falcons, who were well prepared for the rejuvenated Jackets. The match turned into a series of shootouts, but GU ran out of ammunition faster than their opponents, losing 22-25 in the first game, 25-27 in game two, and 19-25 in game three.
"We played well by most standards, except the win column," said Coach Stew McDole on Graceland's tournament performance. "Our platform work was good, serving solid and we hit well. We just did not have enough for the competition we were playing. We look forward to conference play and MidAmerica on Tuesday."
As Coach McDole said, Graceland will next take on MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas on Tuesday, October 20. Stay tuned to the Graceland Athletics website for continuing coverage of women's volleyball, and for all Graceland athletics.
