Mobile, AL-GU men's tennis is in Mobile, AL to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Small College National tourney.
In Thursday's matches, Remy Caffardo (Romans, France) and Daniel Ramirez (Leon, MX) won the first round of doubles, defeating their counterparts from Lindenwood in three sets (2-6, 6-4, 10-7).
Caffardo, the highly decorated junior, fell to Caio Claudio of Lindenwood in his singles matchup. He competes in the singles backdraw on Friday afternoon.
Friday's matches saw Ramirez and Caffardo lose their doubles match against defending national champions Auburn-Montgomery in a super tie-break (3-6, 6-4, 10-7).
Caffardo defeated his opponent from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in the singles back draw, losing the first set 0-6 then winning the next two 6-2 and 6-0 respectively.
Ramirez and Caffardo continued forward in the doubles bracket late Friday,but they could not overcome the team from Embry Riddle in the third place match, ending their hopes of a medal place.
Caffardo defeated Gonzalo Vivas of Huntington College (6-2, 6-2) to take fifth place in men's singles. The Jackets are done in Mobile, but the tournament will continue until Sunday, October 18.
