Kansas City, MO- The Graceland University men’s varsity reserve team took on the Rockhurst reserve team in what proved to be a very exciting game. Graceland was dangerous from the start and had great combination play, but Rockhurst would strike first making the game 1-0 at the start of the second half.
Graceland would answer back right away (49th minute) with Boateng’s first goal of the game, assisted by sophomore Nikola Unkovic (Serbia). As the defense opened up and more opportunities occurred, Rockhurst was given a penalty kick after a Rockhurst player was taken down in the box (52th minute). Michael Schimidt would make a world class save with one hand to keep the game at one a piece. Rockhurst would score another from a blistering shot from 30 yards out, but Boateng put one more strike in on a brilliant individual play to make it 2-2. As the game neared its close Boateng would again score (88th minute), assisted by Adam Schoff (Kansas City, MO).
“Any time you can play a school at the level of Rockhurst, whether its Reserves or Varsity, it’s a great opportunity. Our team really took advantage of our opportunities and played their best game yet as a team. Freshman Kwabe Boateng (Ontario) and Michael Schimdt (Ames, IA) had excellent games and showed why the coaching staff has big plans for them in the future,” stated Coach Porter.
