Fayette, MO-The Graceland women's volleyball team ran roughshod over Central Methodist University in a three game Saturday affair.
The Jacket offense, always reliable for an exciting performance was on the top of its game against the Eagles (5-10). Two of the three games for tonight's contest were never in doubt due to the overpowering assault of the GU attack. The Eagles did manage to make things interesting in the second game, but were unable to overcome a Jacket rally in extra play.
The first game ended with a 25-13 score, establishing the tenor for the match early on. The Eagles showed some life to force a 26-24 result in the second game, but a quick recovery picked up what slack had appeared in Graceland's game during the futile comeback attempt.
The third match returned the show to its previous sensibility, as Graceland put on a dominating performance at (and above) the net to win 25-10 to put a early spoiler on the Eagles' weekend.
"It's exciting to be off to a good start," said Coach Stew McDole. "I watch us play and I know this team has the potential to challenge every opponent. Today we were in danger of losing game 2 but fought out of it," added McDole. "We are so solid now and I believe we will continue to improve. We seem to discover a new tool each game. A fun team - a fun season. Tuesday night will be a real test. Jewell has been a season stopper for us in recent seasons. We plan to be ready," he concluded.
As Coach McDole noted, Graceland will next face the always crafty Cardinals of William Jewell on Tuesday September 22 at their Liberty, Missouri home. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of Graceland volleyball and all of Jacket athletics.
