Marshall, MO-The Graceland University tennis teams gave a strong showing at the HAAC kickoff tourney today at the tennis complex of Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri.
The Jackets were well represented in the bracket championships, particularly on the women's side, and rode off into the sunset with three championships and two runner ups.
In the 'A' Bracket, Remy Caffardo (Romans, France) won the men's singles, then teamed with fellow junior Daniel Ramirez to win the bracket's doubles competition.
In the women's competition, Carolina Verdezoto (Ecuador) and Valeria Avina (Durango, MX) were the runners up in the 'A' Bracket doubles while sophomores Michelle McCabe and Taylor Johnson, both of Clive, IA duplicated the feat in the 'B' bracket. Genna Mervis also managed to win the women's 'C' bracket outright.
"Overall this tournament was a very good experience for our team," said Coach Jerry Hampton. "There were a lot of pleasant surprises, particularly from our new arrivals, who on the whole did very well."
Graceland tennis will next travel to the Washington University in St. Louis Invitational tourney in St. Louis, Missouri on the 18th and 19th of September. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of Graceland tennis and all of Jacket athletics.
