Graceland Invitational
Lamoni, IA-The Graceland University Yellowjacket Men's Golf team was frustrated at their home opener. "Frustration was clearly visible on all their faces. I felt it too as I thought we were ready to play. I believed we could win our home tournament," said Coach Brunner. The conditions were near picture perfect as it was a beautiful 80 degree day with light wind but the scores were slightly erratic. The Yellowjacket team (312) finished second to Missouri Valley (301).
Junior Matt Mickelson (Lamoni, IA) paced the Yellowjacket players by shooting 74 (40-34) which was 3 off the medalist pace of 1-under set by a Missouri Valley player. Sophomore Tim Redding (Grand River, IA) fired a solid 75 (35-40). Rounding out the score for the Yellowjackets were Sophomore Trent Ranney (Lamoni, IA) shooting 79 (40-39), Sophomore Mikhail Ziskos 84 (43-41) and Senior Adam Craig had the most frustrating day shooting 85 (48-37). The second team shot 353 and was led by Senior Sam Chester firing a consistent 75 (38-37). Others on the second team included Sophomore Ryan Martin 78 (44-34), Freshmen James DiPrima 97 (51-46) and Freshmen Tanner Gard 103 (49-54).
"Overall, I found some positives in today's match. There were four players that were able to shoot in red numbers for at least 9-holes and that coupled with our scrimmage on Saturday shows that we can shoot low numbers. That gives me great hope for our future but now is the time to put in hard work and prepare for the season. We have two weeks until our next match so we need to be ready. We have touched on our capability and now we need to find our stride," stated Coach Brunner.
Next match is at the William Jewell Invitational in Liberty, Missouri, on September 21.
