Lamoni, IA- The Graceland women's volleyball team put on a dominating show verses Park University Tuesday night. The Jackets, who improve to 4-2 on the season (2-0 in Conference play), clearly had a productive week-off, and executed their game with sharp, familiar precision.
It took the Graceland women only three games to finish off the Pirates, who fell to 2-4 on the season with the loss, an inauspicious start to an 11-game stretch of away matches.
While Park put up an earnest defense, it was no match for the high-flying Jacket attack, which outpaced the Pirates at 25-17, 25-19 and 25-13 clips in the three games. The Graceland offense was spot on, led by senior Savali Ta'amu (Seattle, WA) who earned no errors despite being a constant presence on the attack.
"Park is always a hard call for us," says Coach Stew McDole. "We have played so many competitive matches with the Pirates that we are wise to always be prepared and ready. Our team has not played since last Tuesday, so they were ready to hit the court and play. We executed well in most positions and benefited from a really responsive crowd. It was a good night for us and good preparation for a demanding weekend to come," concluded Coach McDole.
The Jackets take a break from conference play to host the GU Pizza Shack Invitational this weekend, Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 in Lamoni. The tournament schedule will be released tomorrow online at the GU Athletics website.
