Canton, MO-The women's volleyball team hit the road Friday afternoon to open the 2009 volleyball campaign. The Jackets were in Canton, Missouri for the annual Heart of America Athletic Conference Preseason Tournament.
Graceland opened the day with a dominating 3-0 win over the Avila University Eagles. The Jackets won 25-9, 25-19 and 25-19. Graceland got strong play from their platform players and seniors Molly Cornelison (St. Charles, IA) and Maranda Miller (Holden, MO) led the way with 7 kills each.
In the second match Graceland faced conference foe Evangel University. The Crusaders were able to take care of the Jackets in a well fought match in four games. Graceland fell 19-25, 20-25, 25-20 & 26-28. Despite the loss the Jacket coaching staff felt confident with the way the team played on their opening day of the season.
Graceland get's right back at it tomorrow in day two of the HAAC preseason tournament. The Jackets will face Central Methodist University in their opening game of the day at 9am. Then at 2pm Graceland will take on conference power and 2008 national tournament qualifier Lindenwood Univeristy.
