Lamoni, IA-Graceland University is proud to announce the signing of Sutherland West to our successful women's Yellowjacket soccer team. Sutherland was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She moved with her parents, Paul and Sue, brothers Stratton, Andrew, and Sheppard to Iowa in 1999. She attended Marion High School. Sutherland has played soccer since she was 5, but credits her current ability to her former club coach, Daryn White. Sutherland prefers to play up top, but feels she can readily adapt to whatever position her team requires her to play.
Coach Wagenaar says that Sutherland (Sudz) has a great turn of speed that will complement our already fast team. "Sutherland is a very competent player anywhere on the field, and her speed will be a very valuable asset to our team. Sudz knows the game very well (She is also a certified USSF Grade 8 referee) and will make a great impact right from her freshman year." Sutherland will be working toward her major in Athletic Training and a minor in coaching when she is off the field.
