Fayette, MO-The men's and women's track teams were in Fayette, Missouri Friday and Saturday for the annual HAAC Conference Outdoor Meet. In the final full "team" event of the season, both Jacket squads went out with a bang.
Sophomore Neil Grundman (Croswell, MI) continued his dominating outdoor season as he won the 10k, 5k and the 3k event. In the 10k he broke the Graceland record with a time of 31:37.15 and also qualified for the NAIA national meet in the event.
Along with Grundman, Graceland saw excellent performances from the women's sprinters as three qualified for the finals, Mwale Kapande (Mt. Pleasant, IA) finished second in the high jump, James Thomas (Orlando, FL) finished second in the men's 100 meter dash and senior Ben Brummit (Unionville, MO) won the decatholon scoring 6215 points breaking the track record at Central Methodist. Brummit still holds the HAAC meet Decatholon record.
"This was one of the most exciting and fulfilling HAAC meets of my career," stated Coach Allshouse following the event. "Every athlete put forth 100% the entire time. None of them were just going through the motions and the camaraderie between all of them was an exciting atmosphere to be a part of," finished Allshouse.
For all intents and purposes the Graceland men's and women's track regular season has come to a conclusion. This weekends Graceland Multi-Event has been cancelled and head coach Kent Allshouse is strictly going to use the last few remaining meets for those still attempting to qualify for nationals and a warm up for those already in.
