Lamoni, IA-The Graceland softball team finished their season today against Avila University in Lamoni. In the annual ceremony honoring the seniors, the Jacket softball team paid homage to the seven graduates. This years seniors include Lynette Fine (Bloomfield, IA), Chantelle Daigle, (Sherwood Park, Alberta), Maria Barwig (Surrey, British Columbia), Carlene Nelson (Sherwood Park, Alberta), Bryn Degraw (St. Albert, Alberta), Kelsey Johansen (Robinson, KS) and Sarah Lippold (Osceola, IA). These seven seniors have dedicated countless hours of blood, sweat and tears to the Graceland softball program and they will be missed tremendously.
In game one this afternoon Graceland got a dominating performance from senior Sarah Lippold on the mound. Lippold through a complete game four hit shoutout and Chantelle Daigle went 3-3 with 3 RBI's in the 5-0 victory.
In game two Graceland got off to a rough start serving up six runs in the top of the second. The Jacket seniors however, weren't about to go out that way. Graceland made a stunning comeback capped off by senior Carlene Nelson's walkoff base hit plating Jaymi Crozier (Melcher Dallas, IA) for the 8-7 win in the bottom of the seventh. Maria Barwig went 2-4 in the win with three RBI's.
The Jackets conclude their season at 10-27 overall and 6-14 in HAAC play. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of the Graceland softball team and all of Jacket athletics.
