Box Game 1 | Box Game 2
Lamoni, IA-The Jacket softball team has had a busy week squeezing in all of their makeup games due to poor weather this season. Today they hosted the Benedictine College Ravens in what would turn out to be a wild double header.
Jump ahead to the seventh inning of game 1 where the Jackets headed in leading, 8-2. In what has become Graceland's achilles heel, the Jackets couldn't put away the Ravens and allowed them to score 8 times in the top half of the frame to take a 10-8 lead, after Benedictine had trailed the entire contest. The Jacket however, wouldn't go away. After the first batter of the inning was retired, Cheyenne Proudfoot (St. Charles, IA) singled to left. Following that, twin sister Caitlin (St. Charles, IA) hit a two-run blast deep to center field tying the game back up at 10. One out and and five hitters later senior catcher Maria Barwig (Surrey, British Columbia) hit a walk-off single through the hole on the left side giving Graceland the 11-10 win.
Game two didn't get off to a good start for the Jackets as they allowed nine runs in the first frame. Despite knocking five homeruns, Graceland still came up short as they weren't able to rally all the way back, eventually falling, 11-7.
Graceland now stands at 8-27 overall and 4-14 in HAAC play. They'll finish up their season tomorrow on senior day in Lamoni, as they'll host the Avila Eagles in a 2pm scheduled double header. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of the softball team and all of Jacket athletics.
