Atchison, KS-After dropping two close games to Benedictine last Saturday afternoon in Lamoni, Graceland paid back the favor Wednesday. The Jackets swept Benedictine in Atchison, Kansas this afternoon 3-1 and 10-5 continuing their climb up the HAAC standings and moving one step closer to a possible HAAC tournament berth.
Game one saw a great outing from starter Don Cox (Catonsville, MD) who allowed 1 earned run over 6 innings. Sean Smith (St. Mary's, IA) and Sam Felman (Guayaquil, Ecuador) both hit homeruns in game ones 3-1 win.
In game two the Jackets jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning backed by Sean Smith's second homer of the day, a three run shot. Graceland continued to poor it on and Brian Contreras (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico) added the second Jacket homerun of the game in the top of the fourth as he hit a two-run shot. Graceland would never look back winning the second game 10-5.
The Jackets Saturday/Sunday set previously scheduled with Avila University has been rescheduled to Friday in Lamoni at 1pm and Sunday in Kansas City at 1pm due to expected rain. The Jackets now stand at 12-25 overall and 10-18 in HAAC play. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of the baseball team and all of Jacket athletics.
