Kansas City, MO-After knocking off the two seeded Park Pirates yesterday afternoon, GU faced Lindenwood in today's MAMVIC Championship match. Lindenwood, the number #1 overall seed in the tournament and the #2 team in the country, had already beaten the Jackets twice this season and were able to make it a clean sweep defeating the Jackets in four today. The Jackets lost, 20-30, 30-26, 21-30 and 26-30.
The Lions receive the automatic bid from the MAMVIC to the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City next week and the Jackets will have to wait to hear their fate with one of the at-large berths.
"The one word that defines this team is heart," stated Coach McDole following the match. "We never gave up. Our victory in the second set was in large part due to the serving of Dan Parish. We made a run with him serving and blocked a lot of balls," continued McDole. "Kevin Allison and Joe Klein were our number one kill swings today but everyone contributed and played well. The back row did a nice job led by senior libero Pono Yin who came up with big digs at crucial times. Lindenwood is a very good team with many horses but I am very proud of how we finished. We are not done yet, don't count the Jackets out! Stay tuned for info on the National Tournament and thanks for all of your support," finished McDole.
Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of the men's volleyball team and their hopes in the National Tournament. When information is received, it will be reported immediately on the Jacket website.
