Muskogee, OK-As the season gets under way in '09 the baseball team has set some very lofty goals. Coach McKillip has stated many times that on paper, this is his best team to date and if they can translate that into solid play on the field they could do some great things. Friday afternoon in Oklahoma the Jackets took a big emotional leap in the right direction. Trailing 9-8 headed into top of the ninth, Graceland put up a four spot and held Bacone scoreless in the bottom half of the frame giving the Jackets a 12-9 win.
Senior outfielder Sean Smith (St. Mary's, IA) had a huge game in the win going 3-6 with 2 HR, a double and 3 RBI's. First baseman Sam Felman (Guayaquil, Ecuador) had a homer in the win and third baseman Jared Whitten (McAlester, OK) went 4-6 with four singles and three runs batted in.
The Jackets now stand at 2-1 overall and will finish the weekend out with a double header tomorrow against Bacone College beginning at noon in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Sunday they'll play a double header against nationally ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas) beginning at noon. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage on the baseball team and all of Jacket athletics.
