Lamoni, IA-The men's basketball team has played some pretty close games throughout the season against some excellent teams. Thursday night in the Closson Center things weren't any different. Facing conference leader MidAmerica Nazarene (16-7, 12-1) the Jackets put up a great fight for 30 minutes.
The first half of the basketball game Graceland traded hoops with MidAmerica and only trailed 43-40. The second half however was a different tale for the Jackets. MidAmerica got their transition game going and pulled away from Graceland around midway point. The Pioneers would eventually go onto win 87-70.
Simon Morefield (Independence, MO) led the Jackets with his stat-stuffing performance of 18 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Three other Jackets were in double figures as junior guard Jewel Carter (Kansas City, KS) added 15, Jonothan Carter (Colorado Springs, CO) had 12 and Jared Stricklin (Grain Valley, MO) had 10.
The Jackets now stand at 5-20 overall and 2-13 in HAAC play. Graceland will head to St. Charles, Missouri Saturday for a 4pm conference matchup with the Lindenwood Lions. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of the men's basketball team and all of Jacket athletics.
