Lamoni, IA-It's been a while since the Lady Jackets last tasted victory. Thursday evening in Lamoni Graceland had a all task in front of them facing the always potent MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers (14-9, 8-5). The Pioneers are coming off of an outstanding 2007-2008 campaign where they advanced to the second round of the NAIA National Tournament. Tonight however, was the Yellowjackets night. Graceland started the game on a 14-4 run and never looked back. Junior guard Alex Pinney (Schulenburg, TX) drilled a 3-pointer with under a minute to play breaking a 55 all tie and Graceland held on for a very tight 60-58 win over the Pioneers.
The Jackets got strong showings from senior Katie Lemburg (Modesto, CA) and Alex Pinney. Lemburg ended the night with 19 points and 6 rebounds and Pinney finished with 14 points and 6 boards including the big three-pointer late in the game.
The Jackets now stand at 4-16 overall and 2-13 in HAAC play. Graceland will head to Lindenwood University on Saturday afternoon for a tough battle against the Lions of Lindenwood University (St. Charles, MO). Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of the women's basketball team and all of Jacket athletics.
