Lamoni, IA-Despite the rough year the men's basketball team has endured, the Jackets have continued to fight the entire season. Thursday night in Lamoni the Jackets faced the Avila Eagles (8-14, 4-9). Back in Decemeber Avila knocked off the Jackets in a tight battle in Kansas City 98-96 in double overtime. Their fate tonight wasn't any kinder. After scrapping and clawing for 40 minutes Graceland found themselves on the short end of the stick once again falling 78-74.
The Jackets got a huge night from shooting guard Jewel Carter (Kansas City, KS). Carter had 30 points to go along with 4 steals in just under 35 minutes of action. No other Jacket was in double figures but sophomore Jared Stricklin (Grain Valley, MO) did turn in a strong performance all-around scoring 9, dishing out 5 assists and snaring 4 rebounds.
The Jackets will next head to Central Methodist Saturday afternoon where they'll take on the Eagles in Fayette, MO at 4pm. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of the men's basketball team and all of Jacket athletics.
