Lamoni, IA-For the second consecutive game the women's basketball team has allowed their opponent to jump out to a big early lead. Facing the William Jewell Cardinals on Thursday evening, the Jackets trailed by as many as 22 before storming back and cutting the lead to as little as 4 in the second half. Despite the late surge, the Cardinals amassed a large enough lead early to stave off Graceland for the 70-62 win.
Three Jackets scored in double figures led by Alex Pinney (Schulenburg, TX) with 16. Channel Rainey (Los Angeles, CA) had 11 and Nya Pouk (Des Moines, IA) continued her strong play scoring 10 and grabbing 9 rebounds.
"I'm proud of the way these girls have continued to fight regardless of the deficit," stated Coach Butler following the loss. "That being said, we've got to come out of the gates quicker. We can't keep getting this far behind from the beginning and have to expend all of our energy just trying to play catch up. By the time we get to the end of the game there is nothing left in the tank," finished Butler.
The Jackets will hit the road Saturday morning for an afternoon game in Springfield, MO against the Evangel Crusaders. Gametime is set for 2pm. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage on the women's basketball team and all of Jacket athletics.
