Columbia, MO-The Graceland men's basketball team was in Columbia, MO Saturday afternoon playing their second game of the weekend. After suffering their eleventh loss of the season at the hands of the very tough Columbia Cougars last night, the Jackets faced William Woods University (4-8) today in the Columbia Cougars Cancer Classic. Picking up where they left off yesterday with their intense play on the defensive end of the floor today the Jackets shot much better on the offensive end and it catapulted them to their third win on the season. Graceland defeated the Owls 84-73 shooting 52% from the field including 50% from the 3-point line.
Graceland had four scorers in double figures and were led by junior guard Jewel Carter (Kansas City, KS) who poured in 26. Senior Simon Morefield (Independence, MO) had 15 points and 8 rebounds, Lucas Harris (Colorado Springs, CO) had 14 and Jared Stricklin (Grain Valley, MO) added 13.
"This was by far the most complete game we've played all season," stated a very happy Coach Hamilton from Columbia. "It's great to finally get the monkey off of our back as we head into the brunt of the conference season. If we continue to bring this kind of effort night in and night out as we did the two games we played down here the second half should be a lot more fun. Now we'll begin preparation for MidAmerica on Thursday night where it's always tough to play," concluded Hamilton.
The Jackets will next play the Pioneers of MidAmerica Nazarene in their fifth conference game of the season Thursday night in Olathe, KS at 7:30pm. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of the men's basketball team and all of Jacket athletics.
