Lamoni, IA-The Yellowjacket football team was in Lamoni Saturday afternoon for a day game against the Benedictine Ravens. The Ravens, who came into the game at 3-4 were aggresive on the defensive side of the ball shutting down the Jacket attack and earning a 30-7 victory.
Benedictine got the scoring started early in the game on their first drive as running back Jesse Thomas ran one in from 12 yards out capping off a 5 play 57 yard drive. Raven kicker Jordan Banion added a field goal in the second quarter and Benedictine took a 10-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, the Raven defense continued their strong play stifiling the Jackets. Benedictine would score twice more in the third extending their lead to 23-0. In the fourth quarter the Ravens would tack on their final touchdown of the game giving them 30 points on the afternoon and salting away the win. Graceland would counter late witha touchdown of their own as quarterback Garrett Grundman (Croswell, MI) found wide receiver Daniel Ciccolini (Los Angeles, CA) on a 28 yard pass. The game would end that way at 30-7.
The Jackets now head into their bye week at 1-7 overall and 1-7 in the HAAC. Following their bye week Graceland will be in Liberty, MO for their final road game of the season against the William Jewell Cardinals. That game is scheduled to kickoff at 1pm.
