Olathe, KS-The women's soccer team was back in action today for a conference matchup against the MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers. The Jackets came out with a big win beating the Pioneers 2-1. Graceland now takes a comfortable lead in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. This brings the Lady Jackets overall record to 15-0-1 and 6-0-1 in the HAAC.
Senior captain Tina Cook (Beeton, Ontario) started off the scoring for the Yellowjackets. Cook was assisted by sophmore Chelsea Phillips (Granada Hills, CA) in the 39th minute of the game. Freshman all-star Karina Vega (Asuncion, Paraguay) would follow up with another goal for Graceland just 3 minutes later. Vega was assisted by Junior Shay Eskridge (Rowlett, TX) who also lead the Jackets and their outstanding defense.
"Today we played a dominating game," stated Coach Fred Wagenaar. "Our defense played extremely well and this was by far our best passing game of the year. We did miss one penalty shot and that gave the other team an advantage but we stayed strong and came out with a great conference win," concluded Coach Wagenaar.
The Lady Jackets are back in action Saturday, November 1st against Lindenwood. The game takes place in St. Charles, MO and kickoff begins at 6pm. Stay in tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage on the women's soccer team and all of Jacket athletics.
