Lamoni, IA-The football team knew they had a tough game in front of them as they were at Lindenwood's homecoming game Saturday. Play in the HAAC is some of the toughest in all of NAIA especially when you have three team's ranked in the top ten, Lindenwood University being one of them at #8. The Jackets would fall again Saturday 49-3 at the hand of the Lions.
Graceland came out early in the first quarter playing well both offensively and defensively forcing Lindenwood to punt on their first two possesions of the game and recovered a fumble that Brandon McCoy (Chicago, IL) was able to both force and recover. The Jackets would continue their good play early scoring the only points of the quarter as senior place kicker Luis Villagomez (San Diego, CA) drilled a 29 yard field goal giving the Jackets a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. That however, would be the only score the Jackets would get in the game as the Lions quickly turned the tide. After a long drive at the end of the first quarter and start of the second quarter, the Lions would punch their first touchdown of the game in as Lindenwood running back Dario Camacho scored on a one yard run. The extra point made the game 7-3 and Lindenwood didn't look back. They would score a total of four touchdowns in the first half giving them a 28-3 halftime lead. In the second half Lindenwood continued scoring another three more times rounding out the final at 49-3.
The Jackets now stand at 1-6 overall and 1-6 in HAAC play. The Jackets are at home next week as they'll face Benedictine College in the final game before their bye week. Stay in tuned to the Jacket athleltics website for continuing coverage on the football team and all of Jacket athletics.
