Lamoni, IA-Tonight was a special night at the Closson Center as two teams came together to support the Susan G. Komen breast cancer awareness foundation. Each team showed their support by sporting pink jerseys. It was also a great night as the Jackets beat the William Jewell Cardinals who are currently rated second in the conference. Graceland would have to play William Jewell to five games to come out on top. The scores were 23-25, 25-16, 24-26, 25-21 & 15-11. This brings the Jackets overall record to 17-8 and 4-1 in the Heart of America Conference.
Deserving recognition tonight is junior Savali Ta'amu (Kent, WA) who had an outstanding game in the front row and was also a huge reason why the Jackets were victorious tonight. Defensive specialists Kristen Tanabe (Honolulu, HI) and Hannah Smart (Kearney, MO) really stepped up their digging game against strong hitters from William Jewell.
"Tonight was a great team effort against a very aggressive hitting team," stated Coach Stew McDole. "We knew coming into this game that it was going to be huge. We are the only two teams in the HAAC that have one loss. We came off a big win with beating Central Methodist last week and we carried that over into tonight's game," concluded Coach McDole.
The Jackets continue play in the HAAC Thursday at Missouri Valley and the game is set to begin at 7p.m. Stay tuned in to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage on the women's volleyball team and all of Jacket athletics.
