Lamoni, IA-The men's soccer team came into tonight's homecoming game not having forgotten what happened to them last year at Culver Stockton. Following a big win against NCAA Division I opponent Western Illinois last October, Graceland had a major let down against the Wildcats suffereing their only conference loss of the season 1-0. Tonight was a game they've had marked on their calender for a long time. From the opening of the game Graceland dominated both offensively and defensivley tonight and would get revenge, 4-0.
Graceland got started early as Edson Edwards (Ottawa, Ontario) found the back of the net in the 9th minute of the first half on a nice assist from junior Brian Loving (St. Joseph, MO). Less than two minutes later in the 11th minute Matt Klaus (Kearney, MO) put one in with Matt Iverson (Praire Village, KS) assisting. That's the lead the Jackets would take into halftime and into the second half. In the second stanza both Hunter Re' (Overland Park, KS) and Diego Gonzalez (Brampton, Ontario) added goals for good measure rounding out the scoring.
"After last season this is a game we were definitely looking forward to," stated Coach Monroy after the contest. "We have a lot of respect for Culver Stockton and knew we would have to play well. Homecoming is such a great atmosphere to play in front of and the crowd really gets into the game. I'm glad we could get the win for everyone tonight. Now we turn our attention to Tuesday and a very good William Jewell team. It should be an exciting contest," finish Monroy.
The Jackets will be in Liberty, Missouri Tuesday evening for a 7:30pm matchup against the William Jewell Cardinals. Stay in tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing upddates on the Graceland men's soccer team and all Jacket atheltics.
