Lamoni, IA-After an up and down beginning to the season, the men's soccer team appears to be hitting their stride. Facing an NCAA division II opponent in Truman State Univeristy, the Jackets looked like a team priming for a national tournament run. Graceland dominated the Bulldogs in every facet of the game and pulled away in the second half for an easy 3-0 lead.
The Jackets got started early in the game when junior midfielder Brian Loving (St. Joseph, MO) continued his good play, scoring in the sixth minute giving Graceland a 1-0 advantage. The rest of the first half would be dominated by excellent defense and Graceland would take the 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half defense continued to dominate until the 74th minute when scoring sensation Hunter Re' (Overland Park, KS) found the back of the net amassing his fourth goal on the season and giving the Jackets a 2-0 lead. Diego Gonzalez (Brampton, Ontario) would score one more time for the Jackets in the 87th minute finishing the score off at 3-0.
"Truman State was a really good, physical team," stated Coach Monroy following the contest. "Brian Loving continued his amazing play on the season again tonight. This was really a good statement game for us and we continue to come together as a team," concluded Monroy.
The Jackets will host their annual homecoming game this Saturday at the Rasmussen Sports Complex. The Jackets will face Culver Stockton College at 7pm. Stay in tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage on the men's soccer team and all Jacket athletics.
