Lamoni, IA-The #8 women's soccer team fought hard tonight as they tied with conference foe Benedictine College 1-1. It was a hard fought battle as the game went into two scoreless overtimes. This brings Gracelands overall record to 9-0-1 and 1-0-1 in the Heart of America Conference.
Tonight was another great night for senior captain Bethany Garchar (Brentwood, CA). Garchar scored the only goal for the Jackets in the first half of the game and was assisted by sophmore Chelsea Phillips (Grananda Hills, CA) and freshman Karina Vega (Asuncion, Paraguay). In the last remaining minutes of the game Angeline Finazzo (Benedictine College) scored a goal for the Ravens to tie the game 1-1. The game then went into two scoreless overtimes before it was called. Junior Shay Eskridge (Rowlett, TX) also had an outstanding game in the midfield.
"Tonight was a tough game for our girls because we came out and really played hard," stated Coach Fred Wagenaar. "This was a game where we out played and out hustled our oppenent for every ball. Everyone on defense and offense really showed up to play tonight," concluded Coach Wagenaar.
The women continue conference play Friday against Avila University. The game will take place in Kansas City and will begin at 2pm. Stay tuned to the Graceland athletics website for continuing coverage on the women's soccer team and all of Graceland athletics.
