Lamoni, IA-Following the women's victory this afternoon the Graceland men's team defeated Central Methodist 1-0. This brings the Jackets overall record to 4-3 and 1-0 in the Heart of America Conference.
Freshman Jeffrey Darkwah (Toronto, Ontario) scored the only goal for the Jackets in the 20th minute of the first half. Darkwah was assisted by junior Brian Loving (St. Joseph, MO) and senior Filip Prostran (Oakville, Ontario). Loving (St. Joseph, MO) also led the Yellowjacket defense today along with All-American goalie Carlos Ortiz (Bogota, Columbia) keeping the defense steady in the back field.
"I have to give credit to Central Methodist because they have improved greatly over the years," stated Coach Angel Monroy. "Today we had a new line of defense that gave a great effort. Carlos and Loving did a great job of keeping it steady at the defensive positions. It's also nice to have sophmore Aaron Cairns (Glasgow, Scotland) back on the field. Good teams find a way to beat adversity and go for the win," concluded Coach Monroy.
The Jackets are back in action Tuesday, September 30 at home against Benedictine College. Play begins at 7:00 pm at the Rasmussen Sports Complex. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing updates on the Graceland men's soccer team and all Jacket athletics.
