Lamoni, IA-It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon as the Lady Jackets were victorious in their first conference game of the season. The Jackets defeated Central Methodist 3-0. Graceland who is currently ranked #8 in the nation remains undefeated with a record of 7-0 and 1-0 in the Heart of America Conference.
With many shots on goal, junior Shay Eskridge (Rowlett, TX) was the first to score for the Yellowjackets. Her goal came in the first half with an assist from sophmore Chelsea Phillips (Granada Hills, CA). Phillips continued to move the ball up the field in the second half by scoring a goal in the 70th minute of the game. Phillips was assisted by Junior Sarah Sheahan (Georgetown, Ontario) who had an outstanding game both offensivly and defensivly. The final goal was scored in the 72nd minute by freshman Karina Vega (Asuncion, Paraguay). Vega was assisted by senior captain Bethany Garchar (Brentwood, CA).
"Today we played a good game against a competent Central Methodist defense," stated Coach Fred Wagenaar. "Central Methodist's goalie did an outstanding job today. Our team really stepped it up in the second half and worked well together to make things happen on the field," concluded Caoch Wagenaar.
The Jackets continue conference play Tuesday, September 30th against Benedictine College at the Rasmussen Sports Complex. Play is set to begin at 5:00 pm. Stay tuned to the Graceland athletics website for continuing coverage on the women's soccer team and all of Graceland athletics.
