Kansas City, MO -The last few months have been an incredible experience for former Jacket All-American Kevin Souter. After signing a free agent contract with the Kansas City Wizards of the MLS last spring, Souter has been trying to prove himself on the Wizards Varsity Reserve squad. Apparently, he has done just that. Souter made his MLS debut on Saturday night and helped the Wizards win 2-0 against none other than the likes of David bend-it-like Beckham, Landon Donovan and their LA Galaxy squad.
"This past year has been a whirlwind and a dream-come-true for me, stated Souter on Sunday via phone. "My dream has always been to get into the MLS but I didn't know how, when or if it was going to happen. To be able to not only finally achieve that but have my first game be against my childhood hero in David Beckham is surreal," continued Souter. "I've looked up to him so long that it seemed like fate that I was able to play against him in my first ever MLS game. It was also special that I had my family there from Portsoy (Scotland), the Graceland women's soccer team and many Graceland alumni. I really had a lot of adrenaline pumping when I first went in last night so I really tried to just focus on my strengths and help control the tempo. I felt I played well so I'll look to keep building from there," concluded Souter.
The Graceland community is extremely proud of Kevin Souter and his accomplishments. Look forward to Kevin's continued positive impact on the Wizards team. Souter and Wizards will be back in action this Saturday night in Kansas City against Toronto FC. The game will be nationally televised on HDNET.
